“Beautiful in Black and White”

I am so excited  to be asked to participate!   House Beautiful’s Scavenger Hunt drop 20 chairs ranging from mid century modern to a classic wing chair  randomly throughout the city of LA with the help of sponsors and Jenni Pulos from Bravo’s Flipping Out and Interior Therapy.

Wanna win a chair?  All you have to do is follow along on twitter to get hints on where the chairs are hidden.  Hiding spots are all iconic venues within the city of angels. If you are the first to find a chair, you win that chair!  It’s that simple!

So here is the first chair I will be tweeting hints about….

“This classic 1603 wing chair dares to make a statement! With its curvaceous exaggerated wings and spot on fabric, this is sure to become your favorite place to take a break and relax”!

This is a updated classic wing chair from Lee Industries in a gorgeous charcoal ikat fabric.   Lee Industries has been making quality furniture since 1969 and remains a family owned business right here in North Carolina!  I have bought Lee products  for my clients for years and have never been disappointed.  The sofa in my own family room is Lee Industries and  is almost 18 years old.  It has withheld the wear and tear of 4 children and we still love it.  It’s a classic for sure.  Speaking of classics….

Since House Beautiful has chosen Hollywood for this year’s 4th Chair Scavenger Hunt with the theme of “Black and White” it is only appropriate they asked to link our chairs to an old black and white classic movie.  The first movie that popped into my mind  was the 1938 film Pygmalion  based on the George Bernard Shaw play of the same title, which was adapted for the screen by Shaw himself.  The movie was such a tremendous success it won an Oscar for the the best screen play and several other nominations.  In 1956, the play led to the theatrical musical “My Fair Lady”, which then became a movie in 1964.

In the movie, a common Cockney girl, Eliza Dolittle, becomes the pinnacle of English society, after a makeover by Professor George Higgins.   Lee Industries worked a little “makeover magic” themselves on this basic wing chair.  Not only did Lee Industries take the liberty of exaggerating the lines of of the wing chair’s simple frame, but added an updated ikat fabric, and nailhead trim to create a “a fair lady” that will be a stand out in any room in your home.

Here is a clip from the movie, enjoy!

It’s the classic ugly duckling becomes the swan senario.  While, the basic wing isn’t exactly an ugly duckling, it’s typically well…pretty basic and could be a little boring or predictable, but Lee Industries’ interpretation makes sure the basic wing is anything but boring.
