Scot Meacham Wood – Fabulous Friend on Friday

Meet the fabulous Scot Meacham Wood.   I really dont’ need to say a thing about this guy, the picture says it all.  Fun, colorful and decidedly dapper, this guy really knows how to live an intentionally stylish life!  Scot hails from California, but has a southern upbringing which was evident to me the first time I met him.  I’m not quite sure where that meeting occurred, because I feel as though I have always known him.  He has a gift of making you feel like an old friend the minute you meet him.[…] 

Scot worked for Ralph Lauren for thirteen years and now owns his own design firm in San Francisco.  California may be home, but his design projects span the United States.  A self professed Anglophile, Scot is known for his love of all things tartan, hence the name of his wildly entertaining blog “The Adventures of a Tartanscot”    I recently caught up with Scot at the High Point Market where he shared bits and pieces about his room at the Peninsula Volunteers Inc. Decorator Showcase House.  I couldn’t wait to see the pictures and here they are!  The room is so fab I had to share it!  

The room is only 16 feet square, but it packs a big design punch with its color, pattern and style!  Scot created a “Ladies Bridge Tournament Room”.  The space is actually at the basement level, which explains why the ceiling is so low, but instead of the low ceiling being  a negative, Scot chose to enhance the ceiling with wallpaper and use it as a element of interest. The other design issue of the room was the mirrored wall from the room’s original use as a workout space.  He created a lattice like grid, that was applied to the mirror giving the room a garden feel. 

The tables are dressed in Lilly Pulitzer “Happy Plaid” which would make any room a happy place to be!   Just goes to show that even the basement room can be designed to be as bright and cheery as any room in the house.

The walls were tented in over a hundred yards of Lilly Pulitzer “Tail lights” fabric from Lee Jofa in bright emerald green and white.  To round out the preppy factor, he covered the chair seats in Lilly Pulitzer “Heritage Floral”.  

His choice of furniture was perfect for the room.  He worked with Landon Shockley of The Gilded Stag to create the custom bar cart in bright yellow which added a source of sunshine to the room! The beautiful chinoiserie secretary from Baker  added a collected look and balanced out the playfulness of the room with its commanding presence.   The art in the room is a collection of photographs hung in an unconventional manner which adds to the fun factor of the room.

Scot’s attention to detail is amazing.  From the black ribbon and nailhead detail on the draperies to the darling Circa lights on the bridge tables, he didn’t miss a beat.  He even had LaPlates design decks of playing cards with his design info.  It’s no wonder that Scot is one of the fifty top American Designers in Ronda Rice Carman’s new book “Designers Home” Personal Reflections on Stylish Living. (If you don’t own, go out immediately and purchase,  It’s my new favorite book!)   Scot is the last designer profiled in the book which is proof, that the best is often saved for last!  He shares in the book that organization is a top priority but that emotional components play an important role for him as well.  He loves a well made bed and prefers investing in high -quality bed linens like Polo White label, Sferra, and D. Porthault.  As far as entertaining which he is a pro at, his favorite holiday is Christmas.  You’ll have to get the book to find out more…

Anyone who knows Scot, is aware of his penchant for velvet slippers.  He collects them.  I couldn’t write a piece on Scot without including a picture of his shoes.  This picture, which I stole from his instagram pics is the perfect pic to sum up the fab
